We found out today that we are having a little girl and we couldn't be
happier!!! We are glad that we can actually assign a gender to the
baby now. She was being stubborn like her mom and didn't want to reveal her sex =) She was curled up into a ball and had her legs pressed together. After 45 minutes of trying to get her to move, the technician gave up and told us that we might have to come back in four weeks for another ultrasound (since she couldn't get all of her heart chambers either). Kayu and I were waiting in the waiting room when another tech called us back and said she would give it a try. She finally decided to cooperate the second time around. The tech said she knew what the baby was but wanted to get a better image for us....when she said that...I assumed it was going to be a boy. But it was a baby girl!!! She is 1lb 4oz and is in the 45th percentile. The doctor said she is going to be a long and lean baby...so I am guessing she got those genes from the Phillips family =) Her foot is over an inch and half already...poor thing is going to have big feet just like her mama.
I am actually 21 weeks along, but here is the update for 20 weeks...
You're at the halfway mark — congratulations! Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (The way your baby is measured changes now.) He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (although some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
